We've got 2 weeks left in the quarter, so we'll keep chugging away at
the melodies (we're almost done!). Your final will consist of three
things:
1) sight sing a melody at random from the last 3 pages of your reader
2) sight sing a melody of your choice from the last 3 pages of your reader
3) sing and play from the sheet I passed out last week
Like last quarter, I'll bring a schedule during Monday and Wednesday
of dead week for us to sign up for individual final times.
At this point I understand where each of you are at in terms of sight
reading, so what I'm really going to be looking for is PROGRESS. I
expect you all to be exceptionally better sight readers every quarter,
so the grading will partially be subjective. For those of you that
have not performed so well in class melodies, this is your chance to
show me that you can read and understand the melodies.
In terms of grading, I want to remind you that if you fail any portion
of music 4 (or music 5) that you must retake it the next year, in the
proper quarter it is offered, which puts you a year behind in
coursework. Check your quiz scores and if you would like to see where
you stand, I'll have my office hours on Friday if you need to see what
your grade is.
Also, we have one quiz left before the final, and it will be weighted
for two quizzes. If you have struggled this quarter with dictations,
I'm more than happy to meet with you outside and practice techniques
for hearing and understanding music. Its really hard with a class of
13 people to help each student with what they need, and one-on-one
time can be really helpful.
I hope Jordan's class went well. I think we need to brush up on the
Geographical Fugue for next year, so we can show off to the new
freshman class! Enjoy the rest of the long weekend... by looking at
melodies 232-236 for Wednesday :-)
